Cincinnati researchers developing an energy-efficient filtration material to mitigate water scarcity throughout the world (via The News Record)

University of Cincinnati Ph.D. candidate Zishu Cao, along with a team of student researchers, recently published breakthrough research in a scientific journal printed by the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

With 40 percent of the world’s population facing water scarcity, industrial activities put pressure on water resources by discharging damaging brine into the environment. Brine, often found in seawater or wastewater, is a solution of highly-concentrated salts, like sodium chloride. Removing brine creates clean, pure water.
